About 500 youths in Busia County benefitted from Kshs. 35 million to empower them economically through the 2jiajiri program.
In a program sponsored by the County Government of Busia in partnership with KCB Foundation aimed at equipping the youths with technical skills to help them earn a living.
For the next three years, the program will benefit 1500 youths by the end of its tenure, opening a new era of opportunity and prosperity for the youth in the County.
The County Government of Busia donated Kshs. 17.5 million and the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Foundation donated Kshs. 17.5 million to the 2jiajiri scholarship program. The event was held at the Matayos Vocational Training Center.
Busia County Deputy Governor, H.E Arthur Odera noted that youths in the county have potential in harnessing business opportunities within the county, especially in the technical world adding that the border county has many business opportunities that are yet to be tapped.
"I want to assure trainees that our Governor, H.E Dr. Paul Otuoma’s administration will fully support them during their training period, and certification level and also assist in tapping into entrepreneurial opportunities along the border," said the DG.
The County Executive Committee Member for Education, Ms Beatrice Nakholi noted that as a department they will give opportunities to trainees and trainers who gained their skills from Vocational Training Centers to engage in the completion of stalled ECDE projects in all 35 wards giving them opportunities to earn a living.
"We are very deliberate as a department ensuring that at least all trainees from Busia VTCs get a placement to train and practice their skills," she noted.
Kenya Commercial Bank(KCB) Busia branch Manager, Mr. Christopher Komen, assured the county government of continuous support not only in education but also in other sectors in the improvement of people's livelihood.
"Our main agenda is to create impact, empower people, and address the disparity in wealth within Busia County," assured Mr.Komen.
Other activities included laying the foundation for a new Masonry workshop at the Matayos Vocational Training Center highlighting the commitment to sustainable development and the enhancement of educational infrastructure within the region.
The event was attended by County Secretary, Mr Oscar Juma, Members of the County Assembly led by the host, Hon. Dennis Okinda, Matayos South, Chief Officers; Mr Faustine Ounoi(Education), Mr John Muroki (Environment), Mr Ken Mbaja (Urban Development), Directors and County administrators among other guests.
