Machakos Residents Urged To Take Precautions During the Ongoing Heavy Rains.

Machakos County Minister for Agriculture, who is also the acting minister for Water - Catherine Mutanu, has called on Machakos residents residing in flood-risk areas to take precaution and observe disaster safety measures in wake of the ongoing heavy rains.

Minister Catherine Mutanu has issued a Heavy Rain Alert in Machakos County. 
Speaking during a media tour to check on the status of the recently constructed Machakos dams within Machakos Town Constituency, Mutanu said that Machakos Residents should take precautionary measures as such localized Heavy Rains may lead to flash flooding or flooding to communities living close to rivers, streams and low lying areas.

"I'm urging the public to be prepared and stay safe with more heavy rains in Machakos," said Mutanu
The Minister went on; 

"Know your situation. If you don’t have to leave home, don’t. If you can work from home, do so. If it will take you to go home early before rains, kindly do so, " added Mutanu

She indeed advised residents who live in a flood prone area to take necessary precautions and protect families and property.

She revealed that for the last 24 hours, Machakos County has received a lot of rains.
Mutanu used the opportunity to thank Governor Wavinya Ndeti for the push and handwork of ensuring that all wards of Machakos had at least 2 water dams and also distilling various dams in the county.

She pointed out that the Machakos County Government is heads on to rescue residents in case of any emergency response needed.

Mutanu also cautioned machakos residents against crossing flooded rivers, saying that there is no need to risk their lives when they can apply some patience to wait until the water volume decreases.

Moreover, she urged parents to protect their children and stop them from loitering around heavy water bodies.
