Speaker Anne Kiusya Urges Women To Take Up Leadership Roles, Break Cultural Barriers

Machakos Assembly speaker Anne Kiusya on Friday called on women to go for top leadership roles and fight out for them with their male counterparts.

Speaking to Media at Machakos Social Hall while attending Women Empowerment Forum by FIDA Kenya, Speaker Anne Kiusya asked women to shun fear and take on leadership in male dominated fields.

"The whole has changed today. What our men can do, we can equally do. Let's break out cultural barriers and help transform Kenya.

The speaker, Anne Kiusya, went on ;

‘‘I've done my research and found that our women struggle with fear, which is the biggest challenge in leadership. The lack of courage to take up top positions is the first barrier. Overcome this fear, and you will reach the top,” said Speaker Anne Kiusya

She added;

"Advancing gender equality requires long-term commitment, collective action, and the determination to challenge and overcome systemic barriers and obstacles. Critical to these efforts is the presence of women in leadership and decision-making positions in economic, social, and political life. "

Speaker Anne Kiusya indeed pointed out that women are not asking for favours, saying women are competent, able, knowledgeable, courageous, and have the tenacity to be able to stand up and claim leadership.

"It is the “obligation and responsibility” of women leaders to support and bring in other women to positions of leadership," said Speaker Anne Kiusya

Moreover, speaker Anne Kiusya on Women's Power said that

“We always say as women, ‘We don’t believe in power; we believe in influence’… But there comes a time as a woman leader when you have to exercise power. When that time comes, don’t be afraid to use it.”

Speaker Anne Kiusya is the only female speaker in Kenya. This tells it all that there is a need for women to rise to power and compete for elective positions.
